How the emissions are counted
Scope 2 and Scope 1
Grid electricity is a Scope 2 emission, counted at the grid's weighted average factor, about 0.7 kg CO2 per unit for India. Diesel burned in your own generator is Scope 1, at roughly 0.75 kg per unit generated. Solar used on site replaces grid units; storage that replaces DG hours removes the diesel.
Why customers ask
Listed companies report under BRSR, exporters answer supplier questionnaires, and large buyers set supply-chain targets. A plant that can show a measured reduction and a renewable share has an answer ready; the WTS EMS logs the generation and consumption that the number is built from.
What is assumed
- Factors at the values you set; use the latest CEA grid factor for formal reporting.
- Solar units are consumed on site; exported units are not counted as a reduction.
- Tree equivalent is illustrative, at the absorption you set per tree per year.
Which grid emission factor should I use?
The Central Electricity Authority publishes a weighted average factor for the Indian grid each year, recently around 0.7 kg CO2 per kWh. Use the latest published figure for BRSR or ESG disclosures; the default here is indicative.
Does open access or green power count as renewable share?
Yes, if the energy is contracted as renewable and the attributes are retired. On-site solar is the simplest to evidence because the meter data is yours.
Can the EMS produce the report?
The WTS EMS logs generation, consumption and DG hours continuously, which is the data behind the number. We provide a monthly performance report under AMC that includes avoided emissions.
