What a PCC Panel Is, and What We Build

PCC stands for Power Control Centre. It is the board that receives the incoming supply from the transformer or the generator and distributes it to the plant's outgoing feeders — MCCs, utility boards, lighting boards and large individual loads. It is the single point at which the whole plant's power passes, which is why its busbar, its incoming device and its fault withstand set the ceiling for everything downstream.

Wisdom Techno Solutions builds PCC panels to order at our works in Vadodara, Gujarat, for industrial plants, EPC contractors and infrastructure projects across India. Every board is engineered against your single line diagram, load list and system fault level — not adapted from a standard catalogue design.

  • Busbar systems to 6300 A, copper or aluminium, Form 1 to Form 4B separation
  • Built inside design-verified licensed systems — Rittal Ri4Power, C&S CX, Siemens SIEPAN
  • ACB or MCCB incomers, fixed or draw-out, with bus coupler and interlocking where specified
  • Modular construction with separate chambers for busbars, cables and functional units
  • Multifunction metering, protection relays and Modbus communication where the project needs them
  • Busbars, switchgear, wiring and enclosure assembled and tested in-house, with a FAT report on every board

From a single-incomer distribution board to a two-incomer-plus-bus-coupler assembly with mimic bus and metering, the specifications below cover our standard build. Applicable ratings are confirmed against your specification before manufacturing begins.

PCC Panel vs MCC Panel

The two boards are often bought together and confused with each other. They do different jobs, and specifying one when you need the other is an expensive correction after the GA drawing is approved.

Consideration PCC (Power Control Centre) MCC (Motor Control Centre)
Job it does Receives incoming supply and distributes it Switches, starts and protects motors
Sits where in the system Immediately after the transformer or DG Downstream of the PCC
Typical incomer ACB, often 1600 A to 6300 A ACB or MCCB, sized to the motor group
Feeder content Outgoing distribution feeders to boards and large loads Starter feeders — DOL, star-delta, soft starter, VFD
What sets the busbar size Transformer rating and total plant load Sum of connected motor loads with diversity
Form of separation Form 2 to Form 4B, depending on maintenance philosophy Form 3b or Form 4B is common, because feeders are worked on live
Metering Incomer metering is essential; feeder metering optional Usually ammeter or motor protection relay per feeder
Fault level exposure Highest in the plant — closest to the transformer Lower, limited by the upstream device and cable impedance

When a Separate PCC Is the Right Choice — and When It Is Not

A separate PCC earns its place where availability matters and the plant is large. Distribution and motor control sit in different enclosures, so a fault in the MCC does not involve the distribution board, and either can be shut down for maintenance without the other. On a plant that cannot lose both at once, that separation is the whole point.

It is the wrong choice where floor space is the binding constraint and the motor group sits close to the incoming point. Two boards mean two sets of incoming gear and an interconnecting cable run sized for the full MCC load. On a compact plant room a PMCC — distribution and motor control in one assembly — removes both. That decision belongs at the layout stage, not after the GA is approved.

What to Send for a PCC Panel Quotation

Send these and every offer you receive will be comparable:

  • Single line diagram
  • Load list with connected and demand loads
  • Transformer rating and impedance
  • System fault level
  • Required form of separation and IP rating
  • Indoor or outdoor installation, single front or double front
  • Busbar material, enclosure material and paint shade
  • Metering and communication requirements
  • Spare feeder and future expansion provision
  • Applicable standard, with part and year

Where the load list is not ready we can build an offer from the transformer rating and an outline feeder schedule, and refine it once the list exists.

Common Mistakes in PCC Panel Specifications

  • Sizing the busbar on today's load. The transformer rating, not the present load list, sets the ceiling on a PCC — and the board will outlive several load changes.
  • Specifying a bus coupler without specifying the interlocking. Two incomers and a coupler need a stated transfer philosophy, manual or automatic, with the 2-out-of-3 interlock defined in the enquiry.
  • Copying the form of separation from an old tender instead of deciding it from the plant's maintenance philosophy.
  • Omitting the fault level from the enquiry. Without it no vendor can size the assembly correctly, and the offers stop being comparable.
  • Writing "as per IEC 61439" with no part and no year. The verification evidence a manufacturer submits has to be traceable to a specific standard and configuration.

How Wisdom Techno Solutions Builds PCC Panels

Wisdom Techno Solutions is a licensed partner for three design-verified switchgear platforms — Rittal Ri4Power since 2021, C&S CX since 2023 and Siemens SIEPAN Elite/8PU since 2024. We build inside each system's verified configuration and routine-verify every assembly in-house at our Vadodara, Gujarat facility. Under IEC 61439 the design verification belongs to the system owner and the routine verification to the assembly manufacturer — what that division of responsibility means for a buyer is set out here.

Frequently Asked Questions About PCC Panels

What is the full form of a PCC panel?
PCC stands for Power Control Centre. It is the low-voltage board that receives the incoming supply from the transformer or the generator and distributes it to the plant — to MCCs, utility boards, lighting boards and large individual loads. Because all of the plant's power passes through it, its busbar rating, its incoming device and its short-circuit withstand set the limit for everything downstream of it.
What is the difference between a PCC panel and an MCC panel?
A PCC distributes power; an MCC controls motors. The PCC sits immediately after the transformer and feeds outgoing distribution feeders, so its busbar is sized from the transformer rating. The MCC sits downstream and holds the starters — DOL, star-delta, soft starter and VFD — so its busbar is sized from the motor schedule with diversity applied. The PCC also sees the highest fault level in the plant, because it is closest to the transformer.
What is the maximum rating of a PCC panel?
We build on the Rittal Ri4Power licensed system, whose busbar system is rated up to 6300 A in copper or aluminium. The practical limit for a given project is set by the transformer rating, the total plant load and the system fault level rather than by the panel alone. The busbar has to be verified for continuous current and temperature rise, and separately for the short-time withstand current the system can deliver.
Which form of separation should a PCC panel have?
It depends on how much of the board must stay live while one section is worked on. Form 1 has no internal separation; Form 2b separates the busbars from the functional units; Form 3b adds separation between functional units; Form 4a and 4b additionally separate the terminals of each unit. A plant that cannot shut the whole board down for maintenance normally specifies Form 4B. Higher forms increase size and cost, so the decision should come from the maintenance philosophy, not from an old tender document.
Do I need one incomer or two incomers with a bus coupler?
Two incomers with a bus coupler let the plant keep running on one transformer while the other is out, which is why it is standard wherever an unplanned shutdown is expensive. It costs an extra incoming section, a coupler section and the interlocking that prevents both incomers and the coupler being closed together. If you specify a coupler, specify the transfer philosophy too — manual or automatic, and what the 2-out-of-3 interlock has to do.
What IP rating should a PCC panel have?
IP54 is the usual choice for an indoor plant room and IP65 where dust or water jets are present or the panel is outdoors. A higher IP rating reduces natural cooling, so the temperature rise has to be re-checked and forced ventilation with filters or a cooling unit may be needed. We build PCC panels in IP42, IP52, IP54, IP55 and IP65, with rubber gaskets on doors and removable covers to suit the declared rating.
Can a PCC panel be extended later?
Only if it was designed for extension at the outset — the busbar chamber left extendable at one end, physical space reserved beside it in the electrical room layout, spare or blank compartments provided, and the main busbar sized for the future load rather than only today's. Extending a board that was not designed for it normally means a busbar modification and a plant shutdown.
What material should the busbar be — copper or aluminium?
Both are used and both are covered by our licensed systems. Copper carries more current for a given cross-section and takes less space, so it suits compact rooms and high ratings. Aluminium is lighter and lower in cost for the same current, but needs a larger section and careful joint preparation. The choice usually comes down to the space available, the budget and the client's own standard, so state it in the enquiry.
Do you supply PCC panels outside Gujarat?
Yes. Our works is at Nilkanth Industrial Park 1, near Kotambi Stadium, Kamrol, Kotambi, Vadodara, Gujarat 391510. We supply across Gujarat — Vadodara, Halol, Savli, Ankleshwar, Dahej, Jhagadia, Ahmedabad and Surat — and to projects throughout India, with export deliveries to eighteen countries. Drawing meetings and witnessed FAT are handled at our works; site supervision is arranged project by project.
What information do you need to quote a PCC panel?
Single line diagram and load list matter most. The full list is: SLD; load list with connected and demand loads; transformer rating and impedance; system fault level; required form of separation and IP rating; indoor or outdoor; single or double front; busbar and enclosure material; metering and communication requirements; spare feeder provision; and the applicable standard with its part and year. Send those and every offer you receive becomes comparable.
